Young woman falls to death after spat
PA Auckland A man, aged 21, who tried in vain to pull his girlfriend from a cliff edge, watched helplessly as she fell 20m and suffered fatal injuries. She was Brenda Taihoa, aged 17, of Huntly. She died in Auckland Hospital yesterday from head injuries. The Auckland police said the accident happened late on Saturday evening at the Orakei Basin Reserve where Miss Taihoa was camping with her sister, Cheryl, also aged 17, and her boyfriend, David Denton. Miss Taihoa walked away from the group after an argument with her sister and fell 1.5 m on to a ledge above a 20m drop. Mr Denton struggled to reach Miss Taihoa but could not lift her. • Emergency services found her at the rocky base of the cliff.
