Black eye and worse for Dallas fall guy

David Hartnell's.

I’m not one to gossip but . . . Bobby Ewing is being set up as “Dallas” No. 1 fall guy this season on American television. He will suffer a string of devastating blows; Southfork’s Mr Good Guy, played by Patrick Duffy, will suffer a black eye — and worse — in some dramatic episodes that put him in the thick of the action. In the series of setbacks, Bobby is heartbroken when he hears from accident victim Pam, after her hospital disappearance, that she wants a divorce — but won’t tell him face-to-face. He is crushed to learn of his ex-lover, Jenna’s marriage to his half brother, Ray Krebbs, and of her decision to allow him to raise Bobby’s infant son as his own child.

He is punched out in a brawl with J.R. when his older brother insults Pam, and betrayed when he finds out that the beautiful but sinister ■ young woman who has been romancing him really wants to gain custody of his adopted son, Christopher, whom she claims is her natural child. The United States Air Force has held a special place in Bob Hope’s heart, since they saved his life during World War 11. Now the big-hearted star is showing his deep appreciation by supporting a home for widows of Air Force enlisted men. “The Air Force has flown me safely around the world on my many U.S.O. tours, and kept me alive through a terrifying near-crash back in 1942. That is why I am very very proud to be repaying them through the home. I am deeply touched that they have named it the Bob Hope village.”

Joan Collins is not a happy woman with her latest man Bill Wiggins. It all happened in London when he and Joan were attending a very swanky London ball attended by Princess Anne. Joan left the ball at the stroke of midnight with Bill on her arm, allegedly to get her

beauty sleep. But her head had hardly hit the pillow before Bill was back at the party talking to a lovely young blonde he had noticed earlier in the evening. The next morning, when a picture appeared in the paper of he and the blonde dancing together, Bill said he had no intention of becoming Joan’s fifth husband. “We get along great and have a lot of fun,” he says, “but I

am not going to marry Joan. We are just good friends.” The beautiful Brooke Shields may be the next big star to join the cast of “Dynasty.” I hear a whisper that she has been signed for 11 shows, at a hefty $500,000 a show. This will be the first big thing she will have done since leaving Princeton last November. Actress Kirstie Alley the new star, of “Cheers,” has confessed that she was once hooked on drugs. Her very heavy cocaine habit started before she took up acting; in fact it was while she was working as an interior decorator in her home town of Wichita in Kansas. The star, aged 32, kicked the habit about 10 years ago. By the way, Kirstie is married to Parker Stevenson, who played one of the Hardy Boys in the television series — she and Parker married back in 1983. Alan Thicke, aged 40, who is the television dad to his family on “Growing Pains,” has taken a second job, as host of a brand new Saturday afternoon children’s show on American television called “Animal Crackup’s.” Alan was once married to soap star Gloria Loring. They separated back in 1984. Beautiful Sophia Loren aged 53, has just spent $1 million on a print- advertisement for her line of sunglasses. The ad shows Sophia dressed in a black sequined gown, floating languorously on a huge silver raft in a pool under the glare of the hot Californian sun. I sure hope she sells a few pairs to pay the ad bill, but then who am I kidding, at over $2OO a pair — it’s a snip. “Miami Vice” star Don Johnson is looking at bringing out his own range of men’s fashions. He hopes to have the collection on the American market within a couple of months. Personally, it is something I can’t wait to miss ... but my lips are sealed.
