Tourist in strife

An Israeli tourist had his pack stolen after he accepted a lift from Timaru to Christchurch last week. The man, who was hitch-hiking, was picked up in Timaru on Friday afternoon, January 15, by a man driving a red fourdoor Japanese car. The man drove him to Christchurch and dropped him at the Post Office so he could collect his mail. The driver told the tourist he had a job to do and would collect him in ten minutes. The tourist waited three hours at . the arranged meeting place but the man did not return. He had left his pack, which contained cameras, travellers’ cheques and tenting equipment in the boot of the car.
