Later closing time

PA Wellington Later closing of acceptances and nominations is to be adopted by the Wellington Racing Club.

After this month’s Wellington Cup meeting the club will take nominations on a Monday for a Saturday meeting and acceptances on a Wednesday. This system operates for all clubs in the Auckland and Waikato districts, but has little acceptance in the Central Districts. The decision was reached after discussions with representatives of the New Zealand Trainers’ Association for the need to streamline procedures. The club anticipates that later closing of entries will greatly reduce the number of scratchings. Owners and trainers will be expected to cooperate by providing riding engagements within 24 hours of the closing of acceptances to ensure that full information is available to the news media.

The first meeting involving the new procedures will be the autumn carnival on March 5 and 12.
