Engagement soon for Prince Edward?
NZPA-AAP London Speculation is mounting in the British press that Prince Edward is about to announce his engagement to Georgia May, after her invitation to spend the New Year with the Royal Family at Sandringham. Miss May, aged 22, is a financial adviser in London and the daughter of a millionaire boat company executive. She met the 23-year-old Prince at a ball 18 months ago.
According to “The Times,” the first few days of the Royal Family’s annual six-week stay at the Norfolk estate of Sandringham have traditionally been restricted to the immediate family. But Miss May arrived in time to attend a New Year’s Eve party, and joined Prince Edward and other members of the Royal Family for lunch at the Queen’s shooting lodge on New Year’s day, riding in the Queen Mother’s car from Sandringham House.
On Saturday she went shooting with the Royal Family, helping to collect pheasants killed by Prince Edward. While she may be finding favour with the Royal Family, her own family are not so impressed with her relationship with Prince Edward. Her father, Mr George May, told “The Times”: “I wouldn’t want my daughter marrying into the Royal Family. The Royal Family don’t have any privacy at all. It’s not a life I would want her to lead.”
