Babysitter found in Timaru

By

GLENIS CARROLL

A babysitter, aged 12, and a girl, aged three, in her care were found at Timaru’s Caroline Bay Carnival on Saturday after they had gone missing from Christchurch early on Friday. The child had been left in the care of the babysitter, who was a neighbour, on Thursday evening. The mother arrived home at midnight and after checking on the child and babysitter, who

were both asleep, she went to bed. When she woke the next day she saw the babysitter with the child, getting into a car with three youths. ' The police who sought information from the public on the whereabouts of the car and its occupants did not suspect foul play but were concerned for the child. The babysitter and child were found at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday at Caroline Bay and were taken

into the care of the Social Welfare Department. The child was ( returned to her mother yesterday and the babysitter taken to Kingslea girl’s home. The police said a complaint against the babysitter, for not being under proper care and control of her parents, would be heard in the Children and Young Persons court tomorrow. The police had spoken also to the mother of the child.
