Emigration to Israel rises
NZPA-Reuter Jerusalem Israel received 13,658 Jewish immigrants in 1987, a 35 per cent increase over the previous year, said the Ministry of Immigration Absorption. But of the 8080 Jews allowed to leave the Soviet Union last year, only 2180 headed to Israel, it said. There were notable increases in immigration from South Africa, Argentina and Rumania, the Ministry said.
