Bonecrusher parades
PA Auckland The champion galloper, Bonecrusher, was back at the races on Saturday — to lead out the field for the $400,000 Troy New Zealand Derby. The gelding was given a rapturous reception by the crowd when he headed the field before galloping down the straight at little more than half pace. Trainer, Frank Ritchie, was thrilled with the performance, saying he thought a day at the races and a gallop would do the horse the world of good. Ritchie has followed an
unusual training routine with Bonecrusher lately, splitting the week between the stable and a country property. Bonecrusher will have his first race-day start on January 23 in a 1200 metre sprint at Pukekohe. Safely through that he will be aimed at the Air New Zealand Stakes at Ellerslie on February 27, then perhaps the Lion Brown Sprint at Te Rapa before the Australian Cup in Melbourne in March and his ultimate goal, the $1 million Tancred Stakes at Rosehill, Sydney.
