Leap in wine exports

PA Wellington The Wine Institute has reported a substantial leap in exports of New Zealand wine for the five months from July to November, 1987. The institute’s executive officer, Mr Terry Dunieavy, said industry statistics just released showed exports of 1.023 million litres, compared with • 1.025 million litres for the full year ended June 30, 1987. Mr Dunieavy, said the institute would not be able to identify the individual growth markets until it obtained the latest figures from the Department of Statistics, but he knew of ‘‘substantial increases” in sales to the United Kingdom. He also expected a boost in sales to Japan as well as progressing with such new markets as Sweden. The moving annual total of exports to November 30 was over 1.5 million litres, indicating “every prospect" of exceeding two million litres for the year ending June, 1988.
