Sunday Club in action
By
CHRISTOPHER MOORE
The Christchurch-based Sunday Club yesterday fired its latest broadside against the National Party executive, claiming that the party organisation had deteriorated and calling for the return of the former leader, Sir Robert Muldoon, to the shadow Cabinet. A Sunday Club spokesman, Mr Bert Walker, disagreed “strongly” with recent comments by anonymous party •members that Sir Robert had become the National Party’s main political liability. “A man with his experience and ability is too valuable to be relegated to the political scrapheap. Sir Robert is still being sought after by international economists for his advice.
“I personally feel that he was badly treated — a feeling I’m meeting everywhere these days.” The Sunday Club remained unrepentant about its continuing criticism of the party executive, Mr Walker said.
