Police calls
Reports of underwear being taken from clotheslines in Armagh Street, then being cut and left on the owners’ doorsteps have been made to the police. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Mike Muddiman said the police had had one formal complaint and believed similar incidents had occurred in the neighbouring area. • Liferafts were removed from two boats moored at Lyttelton over the week-end. The rafts were recovered yesterday morning, damaged. Property from inside them was missing. One raft was taken from a fishing boat and the other from the H.M.N.Z.S. Kiwi. The Lyttelton police were following a report from the Coast Guard of activity near the boats during the week-end. • Two bicycles were taken from Fleet Cycle Works, in Lincoln Road, early on Saturday morning. The front door of the shop was kicked in early
in the morning and a Tarinl Winner mountain cycle, worth $720, was taken. The owner of the shop repaired the door but between 2.00 a.m. and 3.30 a.m. the doors were kicked in a second time and a World Rider Minstral cycle, worth $5OO, was removed. ' , • The police are still seeking two men involved in the assault of a Sumner man last Thursday. A man appeared In the District Court yesterday charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident The Sumner resident was assaulted by three men after he disturbed a person on his property. • A burglar was caught in Riccarton yesterday after an alert neighbour reported the sound of smashing glass. A George Street resident heard glass breaking on the property next door at 10.30 a.m. The police were called and, after setting up a cordon, caught the person believed to be on the property.
