Gates stolen

The theft of two 98-year-old wrought iron gates , from the St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, at Loburn, has saddended many church members. The pair of gates, each 1.5 m by I.Bm, were stolen on Sunday, December 29. The police said the gates had no distinctive features other than their age and there were no leads to follow at present. Mir Alan Metherell, the

secretary arid treasurer of the St Andrew’s Church said the gates were hand crafted by a local blacksmith and presented by Mr Peter Iverak, the church treasurer from 1890 to 1895. Mr Iverack also owned the Loburn Blacksmith Shop and had the gates made for the church when it was established in 1890. Mr Metherell said the gates were extremely heavy but had been lifted, off their hinges. |
