Heart report soon

A report on the possibility of a cardiac surgery unit in Canterbury will be made public next week. The Canterbury Hospital Board has received the report it commissioned in June from an Auckland cardiologist, Mr Allan Kerr. The report examines ,the physical resources and staff necessary for a limited unit or a full unit. The board’s chairman, Mr Tom Grigg, said yesterday that the report would not be made public until board members had had a chance to discuss it. This was likely to be at the final board meeting of the year on December 16, he said. All board members were sent a copy of the report late last week. It would be necessary to remove some sensitive references to specific staff members before the report was made public, said Mr Grigg. The board had promised the chairman of the Otago Hospital Board a copy of the report before details were released, he said.
