Concern about rising costs of fees for squash players
The president of the Canterbury Squash Rackets Association, Mr Alan Dunlop, is concerned about the rising costs of affiliation fees for the squash player. In 1988 a senior club member will pay $9 to the New Zealand association and another $8 to Canterbury. “That’s $l7 before they’ve started,” Mr Dunlop said. Affiliation fees for juniors were set at $6 at the annual meeting of the C.S.R.A. this There is relief for school children: those aged under 13 on January 1 will not have to pay affiliation levies for either New Zealand or Canterbury. This matter was the subject of a successful remit by Canterbury at the recent annual meeting of the N.Z.S.R.A. in Rotorua and the district has adopted the same policy for its own affiliation fees. Mr Dunlop said that the
Canterbury association was at present looking for a major sponsor for tournaments and inter-club. Meanwhile, the inter-club format in Canterbury for 1988 will be along the same lines as last year: automatic pro-motion-relegations are likely to be maintained without provision for play-offs.
From division one down there is the possibility of automatic relegation and promotion for two teams rather than one. In the election for senior selectors, Fred Williams gained a spot on the panel at the expense of Bruce Marriott, doubling the representation of the strong Christchurch club. Officers elected were: President, Alan Dunlop; vice-presidents, Murray Withers, Tony Gemmill; management committee, Chris Maher, Wynne Murray, Jim O’Grady, Merle Holland, Fred Williams, Brian Kennedy. Sub-committee co-ordina-
tors: match and tournament, Mr Withers; coaching director, Wayne Smith; juniors, Roger Allred; under 23, John Heinz; masters, Len Reese; Senior administrator, Barry Gardiner; statistician, Jocelyn Douglas; rules and referees, Gary Hutchinson; women’s
district committee, Adrienne Begg; delegate to New Zealand association, Mr Dunlop. Senior selectors: Merle Holland, Don Preston (convener), Fred Williams. Junior selectors: Tim Cook, Kathy Pepper (one to be appointed).
