Sinatra show cancelled

NZPA-Reuter New York About 20,000 fans who turned up for a concert by Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli went home disappointed when the show was cancelled at the last moment because the sheet music for the orchestra was missing. The fans had been waiting in cold rain for the doors to open on Friday evening when a loudspeaker announced the cancellation about 10 minutes before showtime. A spokeswoman at the Brendan Byrne Arena outside New York, where first of two sold-out concerts was due to be held, said the music did not arrive in time from Los Angeles, California, where Sinatra had performed earlier in the week. Sinatra and Minnelli, who were also due to perform on Saturday, had agreed to reschedule the show for today (New Zealand time), the spokeswoman said.

In September, Sinatra cancelled his last two concerts at Carnegie Hall because of laryngitis.
