Lotto systems warning

PA Wellington People should be wary of misleading and deceptive claims by promoters of betting systems for winning lotto, the Commerce Commission says. The commission chairman, John Collinge, said the commission was investigating two complaints under the Fair Trading Act about advertised lotto systems. Promoters of the systems claim they have special ways of giving players a better chance of winning lotto prizes. Mr Collinge said staff of

the applied mathematics division of the D.S.I.R. and the Lotteries Commission doubted that using the systems could change the chance of choosing winning numbers. In fact if many people used the same numbers, winnings to each person could be reduced, he said.

One system, costing $25, was based on astrology numbers.. The other, at $2O, appeared to do no more than pick numbers with a reasonable spread and help with random selections.
