Mr Peter Calder, the new site manager of New Zealand’s biggest metal galvanising plant, Hot Dip Galvanisers Christchurch. Fletcher CSP, of Auckland, a member of the Fletcher Challenge group, has just bought Hot Dip Galvanisers from Perry Holdings, Ltd, for an undisclosed sum. Fletcher CSP is in hot

dip galvanising and in the manufacture and marketing of corrugated drainage and stormwater pipes, steel lighting columns and highway barriers. Fletcher CSP general manager Richard Bentley said the new Christchurch operation will complement the company’s existing galvanising facilities in Auckland.

Mr Bentley added “Fletcher CSP already had a strong identity in the South Island, through its sales of stormwater and drainage pipe.” The Hot Dip plant in Washbournes Road, Sockburn, has the largest galvanising dip-bath in New Zealand — 11 metres long, 1.4 metres wide, and 2.1 metres deep. It is capable of handling very large objects, while also

having the versatility to take small items, such as nuts and bolts, economically. Mr Bentley says “There will be no . major changes to, the Christchurch operation and even the name will remain the same.” The successful sale was arranged by Peat Marwick Corporate Services Christchurch.
