Chase joins Hoyts

PA Wellington Chase Corp and the Hoyts Group of Australia are to establish a joint venture which will be the vehicle for an expansion of Chase’s and Hoyts’ film, video and entertainment activities in New Zealand. Chase’s shareholding in the new venture, subject to Commerce Commission and Overseas Investment Commission approval, will be held through its wholly owned subsidiary, Amalgated Theatres. The new venture will be called Amalgamated Hoyts Theatres. In recent years, following changes in ownership, Amalgamated has represented Hoyts in New Zealand, distributing such hit movies as Crocodile Dundee. The Hoyts Group is owned and controlled by the Melbourne-based Fink Family and in 1988 will be Australia’s largest cinema operator. In Australia the Hoyts Group recently floated two companies, Hoyts Entertainment and Hoyts Media.
