Post offices
Sir,—l endorse Bill Filshie’s comments (November 25) regarding the reorganisation of our postal "services” — the last term
should now be deleted. You may be able to fool some of the people some of the time, but I believe New Zealand Post,
despite its glossy brochures, is having a hard time convincing people that everything is actually for the best as they see all the traditional services, and community post offices disappearing. Such changes as no interest on any accounts (bar school ones) below $3OO are also, to my mind, iniquitous. There are many of us who have several key accounts. (Remember, not so long ago we were being encouraged to use them to save for different purposes?) They seldom reach the magic celling of $3OO, but why should they not earn interest? I have -used post office banking services all my life, but see the present “new order” as a sad shadow of its former self. Is all “service” to go down the drain in this purely profit-motivated pursuit of corporatisation? Does anyone really know what they are doing and the effect on our New Zealand community? — Yours, etc., JILL WILCOX. November 25,1987. j
