Check on wells
Irrigators are being asked to monitor the perfqrmance, of their irrigation equipment so any decline- in output from their wells is recognised immediately. Once the decline is noted action can be taken to fix' the problem before crop damage occurs through lack of water. An important factor in well performance is the “available drawdown" — the level of water in the well above the pump. This information can be obtained from the North Canterbury Catchment Board throughout the irrigation season. Staff may also be able to offer advice on the causes of reductions in pumping yields.
