Sir,—J. Spicer (November 18) is hopelessly muddled. America exploited Nicaragua, backing the brutal, greedy Somozas; the Sandinistas are indigenous and independent El Salvador is a Rightwing dictatorship, killing thousands of Left-wingers. The A.N.C.
criticises and bans necklacing;. South Africa’s police used it first, on blacks. None of Nicaragua, El Salvador or the A.N.C. is Soviet- V controlled. In each country the Soviets support the powerless majority (does J. Spicer care about democratic rights?); 1 wealthy capitalists oppose them ; all. In Nicaragua socialist States . help with welfare, health, education, production and defence; El Salvador they provide cine, food, and, regrettably, strategic and military hardware. . If Western countries will not helpfc liberate oppressed majorities, u and soipe support oppressive » minority Governments, the'bp-re-pressed will seek socialist help.
