Teachers return to classes
PA Hamilton A two-year training course for school principals and deputy principals has begun at Waikato University. The programme is the first of its kind, according to a senior education lecturer at the university, Mr Ted Wadsworth. It was .organised to aid school heads with staff development at school, curriculum development and with inter-personal skills like counselling, he said. Mr Wadsworth spent a
year researching the; needs of school leaders, • receiving $20,000 Government funding. The research Involved running seminars and workshops, interviewing 12 principals in depth and acting as a consultant for two princi- ‘ pals. A questionnaire was also sent to school leaders in the Waikato/Bay of Plenty area. Results showed there was a need for the course. There have been 49 enrolments in the course, from as far as Auckland and Gisborne.
