Jail for 'savage' rapists
PA Rotorua A savage rape brought 8y 2 years jail terms for each of three Mount Maunganui men when they appeared for sentence in the High Court at Rotorua.
The rape, admitted by Patrick Henry Paralre, aged 20, Rakn Herea - Paraire, aged 21, and. Beqjamin Phillip Paralre, .aged 21, dll unemployed,; <had been described by experienced detectives ®ud by the Judge at the ■ ’Taurnnga District ’Court, * ■rtho had ccinmittigl the. .prtsonere fbr sei)tente, as; the worst they W heard. ■ The Grown-salieitcn;, Mr ■’ .John MacDonald, of • Rotorua, made *the -comments in submissions to Mr Justice Gallen ■before .sentence. • •Mr MacDonald said the offenders raped the woman, aged 18, and gouged her eyes, apparently in an attempt to prevent her recognising them. They had also punched her repeatedly and had throttled her. Raka Paraire had, he said, beaten the woman on the pretext that she had not satisfied him, and there had also been a suggestion that she be, killed.
