Beer price set to rise

PA Whangarei The prices of a jug and a crate of beer are set to rise, New Zealand Breweries has announced. Draught beer would go up 6 per cent and quart bottles (750m1) 5 per cent. The company’s public relations manager, Mr Graeme McMillan, said the price rises were because of increased costs. The public would start

to pay more as soon as the Hotel Association set over-the-bar prices. “We try to keep prices steady, but it is all related to variants,” Mr McMillan said from Auckland. The announcement comes hot on the heels of a well-publicised drop in canned and stubbie beer prices, 3 per cent or about 30c a dozen. New Zealand’s other

main brewery, Dominion Breweries, looks likely to follow suit It too has slashed canned and stubbie beer prices 3 per cent D.B.’s Whangarei area manager, Mr Steve Griffin, said the company was “reviewing” draught and bottle prices. “In the near future they will be going up,” he said.
