A.C.C. proposal criticised
PA Wellington The Law Commission’s proposed single-rate levy for Accident Compensation Corporation payments was discriminatory and illogical, according to Mr David Watson, president of the Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Federation. "It is illogical because the make-up of industry payments varies from high-risk industries contri-
buting $27.85 per $lOO of payroll and low-risk businesses paying $1.20 per $100,” he said. “The proposal is discriminatory because it provides no incentive for industry to take care to prevent accidents or to continue with accident prevention programmes.” Mr Watson said he hoped the Government would recognise the law Commission’s proposal as
woolly thinking, and adopt differential rates for industries and accident-free rewards on A.C.C. levies. “There is nothing like a financial incentive to get people to concentrate on accident prevention,” he said. "No amount of gimmicky advertising on television, as we are seeing, can have the same effect”
