274kg pumpkin
The winner of this year’s world pumpkin contest is three-quarter metre high, 274 kg monster that put the other gourds to shame. Don Fleming, a retired contractor from Morrisville, won the seventh annual World Pumpkin Confederation Weigh-Off, a contest that is the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for an elite group of gardeners. "It’s a hobby," said Fleming, who grows nothing but giant pumpkins. "Anybody can do it You just need the right seeds, a lot of water and a lot of cow manure.” —Morrisville, Vermont
