Obituary Mr G. S. Livingstone

Mr Gordon Stanley Livingstone, who tended the Sanitarium Health Food Company gardens in Papanui for 15 years, has died. He was 69. He and his wife, Mrs Vera Livingstone, became the Sanitarium gardeners in 1969. Their work attracted many tourists, became the backdrop for countless wedding photographs, and won several awards. A special award was given for the gardens during the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, and Mr and Mrs Livingstone were awarded the New Zealand Tourist Drivers’ Guild Trophy for their outstanding service to..the tourist industry in 198$.

farming in Southland. He married in 1942. During World War II he served two years in the Home Defence Artillery at Battery Point and Ripapa Island, Lyttelton Harbour. His interest in horticulture developed in the Invercargill City Councils parks and reserves department where he became foreman of the propagation nursery for about eight years. Mr Livingstone retired in 1984 but retained bis interest in the Sanitarium gardens as a planner and supervisor. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
