Banking facility wanted
The Lyttelton Borough Council last evening expressed its concern about the closing of the banking facility in the Diamond Harbour Post Office agency. Many elderly, immobile people lived at Diamond Harbour, and it would be half an hour’s drive to the nearest post office once the facility closed, said Cr Euan Godfrey.
Cr Mahoney May said it seemed pointless to remove the banking part of the agency, as the stamps, motor registration and telephone accounts would not be enough business to occupy two members of the staff. The council resolved to do everything in its power to make sure the banking facilities remained in Diamond Harbour.
