All Blacks Japan-bound

PA Auckland The All Blacks left last evening lor their fivematch tour of Japan confident they would achieve the targets they have set. These are to develop the game pattern started in the World Cup campaign and to Integrate eight new players (counting previously capped Mike Brewer and Brent Anderson) into the side. The coach, John Bar. was satisfied after Satui day’s final training run at Pukekohe Stadium that these goals were well within the side’s reach. Reflecting on the three days of intensive training last week, Mr Hart said, “I think we’re ahead of what we wanted to be at this stage. 1 “Perhaps we’ll do some

work on kick-offs and concentrate a bit more on line-outs but we’ve done as much as we could in such a short time.” Scrummaging was another sphere of apparent concern. The forwards’ coach, Alex Wyllie, agreed some of Saturday’s scrum work appeared a little rough, but he believed this was a minor problem caused by having to introduce new players. The new captain Wayne Shelford said the aim in Japan was simple: To win in style. The itinerary in Japan: v. Japan Selection, Tokyo, October 21; v. Japan, Osaka, October 25; v. Asian Barbarians, Kyoto, October 28; v. Japan, Tokyo, November 1; v. President’s XV, Tokyo, November 4.
