Some Chch banks offering exemptions

A survey of Christchurch banks yesterday found that superannuitants and students may do well to ask their banks if they are exempt from cheque account charges. Superannuitants are exempt from cheque account charges at Trust Bank and the Bank of New Zealand. Postbank does not charge anyone for cheque accounts. Westpac and the National Bank have package deals for superannuitants which exempt them from cheque account

charges, and the ANZ Banking Group exempt superannuitants who have their money paid into the account. At some banks superannuitants need to ask to become eligible for the exemptions. Students are exempt from cheque account charges at Trust bank and the ANZ. At the BNZ, Westpac, and the National Bank there are exemptions within special package deals. The ANZ also has an exemption for workers under the age of 24.
