Tokyo film festival
NZPA-AFP Tokyo China’s “Old Well,” directed by Wu Tien-Min, won the Grand Prize at the 1987 Tokyo International Film Festival this month.
An international jury headed by the American actor, Gregory Peck, picked the film from 14 entries from 13 countries. The best actor award went to China’s Zhang Yimou, who starred in “Old Well,” while Rachel Ward won the best actress award for her part in the Australian film "The Good Wife.” /
The best director award was won by Lana Gogobendz, of: the Soviet Union, for “Turn Over.” The special jury’s prize went to the Canadian film “Housekeeping,”
The best artistic contribution and best screenplay award was won for the British film “Hope and Alive.” In 'he Young Cinema 1987 category, with 17. competing films whose directors are aged under 35, the British “The Kitchen Toto,” directed by Harry Hook, won the "Sakura” (cheery) Gold prize
