City cyclists

Sir, — There is one point that has been overlooked in the recent correspondence about cyclists: People who drive cars kill other people, whether by accident or design. People who ride bicycles do not. — Yours, 6tC» A. J. E. DALE. October 6,1987. Fiji Sir,—l see indignation from all sides condemning the colonel for his stance on Fiji politics. We lived in Fiji for three years, some 20 years ago, and I cannot help having a sneaking admiration for his ideas. We could see then how the Fijian could become a second-class citizen in his own country. While the Indians were a hard-working race they were still sending money back to India three and four generations later. The Fijian race is a proud one and should

not be allowed to become extinct through intermarriage and integrated governments. We should be quietly supporting the ’ Fijians, helping them to retain their own identity and dignity.—Yours, etc.,

D. R. DOCKERY. October 5, 1987.
