General, how these could' best be carried out, and from where they should be based. A further point to be considered would be the future of Land Information New Zealand, the major inter-departmental computer system being developed. Information held by the Valuation Department
was a vital component of this system, the papers ■ department, was •hieing restructured and from April 1 next year wpuld institute a full costrecovery regime. •’ It was investigating further possibilities for commercial operations, the papers said. T' These included allowing local authorities to use alternative methods to maintain district valuation rolls, competing for work in •< the private sector, offering clients a full choice of the. level of service provided and charged for. The papers said the move towards greater commercialisation of the work of the department extended logically into considering the department for State owned enterprises status.
