Fendalton couple have best garden

A Fendalton couple, J. H. Rowden and Mrs Rowden, have won the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s top prize In the spring garden competition. The couple who live at 64 Clyde Road, were the only place-getters in the section for the Russell Challenge Rose Bowl. The society’s secretary, Mr Tom Clarke said there were as many entries as in previous years, but, although the Standard was good, the judges were disappointed in the quality of the lawns, with many not being watered sufficiently.
