Child protection workers to confer
The first national meeting of representatives of New Zealand’s 30 childprotection teams will be held in Wellington early next month. The meeting will discuss the progress of the
teams and their future possibilities, said the chairman of the National Advisory Committee on the Prevention of Child Abuse, Dr David Geddis. Thirty child-protection teams have been estab-
lished since the first two were piloted in 1980. Five, including the Christchurch Child-Protection Team, are Government-funded. Representatives of the national advisory commit-
tee would attend the twoday meeting on November 3 and 4. The Minister of Social Welfare, Dr Cullen, and the Director-Gen-eral of Social Welfare, Mr John Grant, have also been invited.
