Two with the blues
Marg Layton and Dave Murphy are two New Zealand blues musicians. Recently they have joined forces, blending their styles.
They are bringing their music to Dux de Lux Restaurant tomorrow to start a tour of the South Island.
During her singing career, Marg Layton has not limited herself in her choice of accompaniment and has worked with folk, rOck, jazz and blues musicians. When she formed her own blues band in 1981, she combined a blues frontline and bassplayer with a rock drummer. Recently she has performed with jazz instrumentalists.
She has returned to working regularly with guitarist Chris Prowse and harmonica player Andrew Delahunty, both members of her original blues band.
They combined with guitarists Bill Lake and Dave Murphy to present a highly successful night of blues (“True Blues**) at Downstage Theatre. With Murphy’s band, the Juke Jivers, she was a guest at Wellington's Stelnlager Blues Festival.
Murphy began playing at 15 and has performed In Athens and ’ London. ' . "
Between Juke Jivers engagements in 1986 Murphy worked with Ted Clarke and Gary McCormick in the poular “Out Of The Blue” tour.
On. their South Island tour Marg Layton and Dave Murphy will play at the Dux de Lux, Foxy’s Restaurant ,in Dunedin October 9 and 10), Oliver's Restaurant in Clyde (October 11), and the Cardrona Hotel (October 12).
