Waitangi group against review
The review of the Town and Country Planning Act has been strongly criticised by the Project Waitangi group in Christchurch.
The review has been prepared by Mr Antony Hearn, Q.C., who is counsel for the Crown in the Ngai Tahu land claim case.
Mr Brian Archer, a spokesman for the group, which is part of a national network aimed at educat-
ing New Zealanders about the importance of the Treaty of Waitangi, said the review paid insufficient attention to the treaty. < The group believed all legislation must conform to the treaty.
“Mr Hearn’s review ranks the principles of the treaty as eleventh out of thirteen in the general purposes of the Town and Country Planning Act. ■
