Busy marae venue
By JANE ENGLAND Maori affairs reporter The Rehua marae is probably the busiest marae in the South Island, according to the marae’s secretary, Mr Terry Ryan.
The marae has this year hosted numerous national education, health, and social welfare huls. A section of the law conference was held at the marae last Friday and a hui for members of the Mataatua Waka tribe (Bay
of Plenty area) living in Christchurch was held during the week-end. More than 70 pupils from Darfield High School will attend a hui at the marae this week-end. Mr Ryan said he had been “delighted” that the marae was proving so popular for both Maori and pakeha. “We would be happy to hear from anyone who is interested in holding or partaking in a hui here.”’. .
