Gardening course
Sir,—All power to the arm of Ofelia Chambers who is teaching students how to make waste land into productive areas and thus creating a sustainable eco-system (September 30). Students have shown great enthusiasm for the courses run by Polytech and in these days when Australian beef and, on ohe occasion, New Zealand colby cheese, have been found to contain more than per-
missible chemical residues, surely every encouragement should be given to those who promote the organic way by not using any form of poisons or insecticides. Mr Terry Hill should see the films produced by Mrs Chambers, as should any sceptics in the Labour Department or Canterbury Access Council. Organic farming, which has been in vogue for many years, is now recognised as viable by MAFTech. Of course, agricultural business dislikes decreased sales of poison sprays, but consumers all over the world will welcome news that agriculture can now produce pesticidefree produce. New Zealand is already in this export field, albeit in a small, but everincreasing,' manner. — Yours, etc j JACK D. MEECHIN, / Executive member, \ Qirtstchurch Educational fp Environmental Trust, 0 representative. October 3,1987. \
