Wickliffe refuses to comply with order
PA Auckland A former Paremoremo Prison inmate, Dean Wickliffe, says he will not comply with an order to report to the Otahuhu probation service. Wickliffe yesterday pleaded not guilty in the Otahuhu District Court to a charge of breaching terms of his parole, but after his appearance, Wickliffe, aged 38, said he had received an order to report again but would not comply. He said his refusal was part of a continuing struggle to have his life sentence for
manslaughter overturned. “The probation service know where I am, they can come to me. I will not report to them,” he said. Wickliffe was recently paroled from prison after serving 15 years for a murder conviction which was changed on appeal last December to a conviction for manslaughter. The former inmate appeared briefly in the Otahuhu District Court yesterday on a charge of failing to report to the Otahuhu Probation office within 72 hours after he left Kaitaia on August 14.
He was remanded to appear again on October 14. The terms of Wickliffe’s bail have been continued. He must reside at a Mangere East address. Wickliffe was arrested in Otahuhu last Tuesday after a warrant for his arrest was issued in the Kaitaia District Court on August 31. Wickliffe said yesterday that his changed parole conditions meant he could now live and work in Auckland. The parole board changed the conditions last week, but decided not to make them public.
