Brother died in crash
A man, aged 22, a frontseat passenger in a car driven by his brother, sustained fatal Injuries in a collision at the intersection of Greers Road and Harewood Road, the court was told.
Gregory Daniel Thorpe died on March 28 as a result of multiple severe injuries sustained in the accident the Coroner, Mr Colin Marshall, found yesterday. Senior Constable Martin Richard Fitzsimons said that on Friday, March 27, 1987, . Anthony Arnold Thorpe was driving a car on Harewood Road, and as he approached the controlled intersection the traffic lights were red and against him.
He said Thorpe, without slowing down'and appearing to ignore the red traffic light, entered the Intersection and collided with another car. He said on completion of police ienquiries Anthony Thorpe appeared in the Christchurch-Dis-trict Court charged with having excess £ blood alcohol whilst in charge of a motor vehicle, and by an act or omission in relation thereto, caused the death of his brother. Thorpe pleaded guilty to the charges andwas convicted and sentenced to 200 pours community service; and disqualified from driving for, two years.
