Ransom demands
Dutch police are now “convinced” that a Dutch supermarket tycoon who disappeared last week has been kidnapped. A police spokesman said the family of Gerhard van Heijn had received several anonymous letters and telephone calls demanding a ransom for his release. The police were now waiting for the kidnappers to supply proof that Mr van Heijn was still alive, a spokesman said. — Haarlem.
