Man admits attack on minister
PA Auckland A man who admitted assaulting a Presbyterian minister in a public toilet went there to scare homosexuals, the District Court at Auckland was told.
Rocky Jimmy Gibson, aged 24, a builder’s labourer, told police he went to toilets in Mount Eden on August 11 to “frighten away” homosexuals. He objected to their using the facilities. Gibson pleaded guilty before Judge Paul to a charge of assaulting the minister while in possession of a knife.
Sergeant Philip Wirth said the minister, aged 54, was set upon by Gibson
who was wearing a bala-
clava as a disguise. During a struggle Gibson yelled, “I’ll kill you, you bastard.”
Mr Wirth said the minister suffered a 2cm cut to a thumb and a laceration to the head before he broke free and fled.
Gibson was spoken to by the police a short time later and admitted the offence. He helped them locate the knife and balaclava.
Judge Paul convicted Gibson and remanded him on bail for a probation report and sentence on October JI 4.
