No redundancies planned—firm
The footwear division at Skellerup Industries was doing well and no redundancies were planned, said the general manager of the-Skellerup Footwear factory, Mr Tony White, yesterday. He believed that the factory was doing better than other factories and had had a good year. Forty-two rubber workers were told ; recently that they would be laid off by Skellerup as the company restructured Skellerup Polymer Products, Skellerup Rotocure, and the company’s millroom section. They will finish on October 2. The sections will be
grouped together under Skellerup Rubber Manufacturing, Ltd. The industrial relations co-ordinator for Skellerup, Mr Ron Sutherland, said the company would meet the Rubber Workers’ Union on Monday to discuss the redundancies. He would not comment further on the redundancy agreement until they had met. The workers were covered by a redundancy agreement agreed in 1982. A meeting would be held on September 18 for all rubber workers at the plant, to bring them up to date.
