Kiwi touch to wedding of former ‘Miss N.Z.’
WHEN LYNDA McMANUS, “Miss New Zealand” 1986, was married recently in San Diego, reception guests raved about the New Zealand wine and desserts and went back for seconds.
Lynda married a tennis coach and sportsman, Jeffrey Bubnack, of Rancho Santa Fe. She wore a satin and lace designer gown, and was attended by four bridesmaids in long gowns of delicate rose-petal pink. Two of the bridesmaids were longtime friends from her home town, Westport. Many of the guests had travelled from New Zealand.
Two Canterbury firms supplied the desserts and wine to give the reception a New Zealand flavour. Yardley’s Bakery, Ltd, of Aranui, Christchurch, provided brandy snaps and ginger kisses, and Gorg Spiteri,
managing director of Christchurch’s George Hotel, supplied St Helena wine carrying his “Pescator” label, named for his restaurant.
Guests at the reception, and a prewedding reception for the New Zealand community in San Diego which was hosted by husband-and-wife team Patricia Thornton and John Peterson, wanted to buy supplies locally. Mrs Thornton introduced Lynda to San Diego when she attended South Pacific Expo ’B6, as “Miss New Zealand.”
Lynda had two wedding cakes, one a typical American chocolate mousse, and the other, a threetiered elaborately-iced New Zealand cake baked by Michaela Venning, of Auckland, and hand-carried to San Diego.
