‘TV land’

By

CELESTE RICHARDSON,

aged nine, of Christchurch Christine was bored. She went to the lounge and turned on the television. Suddenly the television screen got larger and larger! Christine found she could get in! She climbed in and found herself in a large room. “There you are at last, Susie!” said a tali woman. “I’m not Susie, I’m Christine!” said Christine. “Oh yeah, and I’m Spike Milligan I suppose.” “Bev! Better hurry and get Susie in costume?” called a man, “The show starts in 15 minutes!” “Get into this tutu quickly,” said the woman. “But I ...” “No buts and ifs, oh dear, your hair is a mess. Brush your hair out with this ... Oh my god, why did you get your hair cutoff?” “I didn’t get it cut off,” was Christine’s surprised answer. She looked at her shoulder-length hair. She had never had long hair. “Susie, come on,” said Bev, when Susie, or who she thought was Susie, was ready Christine was pushed on to a stage. Then beautiful music began to play. Christine just stood there. “Cut,” said the man. “Did you not learn your part?” asked the woman. “What part?” inquired Christine politely. This infuriated Bev so much that smoke was coming out of her ears! “Oh! You are impossible!” The woman was shaking with fury. “You’re, you're fired!” “Out!” ordered the man. Christine went out a side-door and found herself in the lounge. “Mummy! Mummy! Guess what!” When Christine told her mum, she laughed and said, “You were asleep dear.”

Christine believed her until that night. When she was undressing for bed, a silver button like the one on the tutu fell out of her pocket.
