‘A Tarantula’s adventure’
MATHEW SPIERTZ
By
aged nine, Kaiapoi
Once there was a tarantula called Seven Legs.
He was called that because when he was born he got his leg bitten off by a wasp. He moved around okay but he had trouble catching and killing flies, because he also had only one pedipalp.
One day he was out spinning a web when a gust of wind hit him. suddenly. He went flying everywhere, then he hit the ground with a bang.
He was a bit knocked out for a minute but then he improved. He wondered where he was and shouted “Help.”
He was being carried away by a big bird. Then suddenly he got dropped in the bird’s nest. He was starting to get hungry but he could not spin a web although he tried several times. But at last he succeeded.
A few minutes later he had a fly. He ate it. up and then started to find a way out.
He caught his spinnerets on to a piece of the nest and went flying around for hours and hours.
Then THUMP! He hit the ground./He then discovered he was home again.
He shouted "Hurray! Hurray!” My thread has saved the day!”
