Library more relaxed
The Canterbury Public Library’s first week-end of extended hours allowed library users a more relaxed time, reported the City Librarian yesterday. Mrs Dorothea Brown said the staff rostered on on Saturday found working much less of a rush. A number of patrons had commented on having more time to choose books. The library extended its full service hours on Saturday for the first time to offer a full service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previously, the library was open for full service until midday and open for reading only later in the day. It still opens for read-ing-only hours on Sunday afternoon and evenings. Those hours were well patronised on Sunday, Mrs Brown said. The library was staffed on Saturday by two teams, one working 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the other from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Mrs Brown said.
Six library staff now worked on Sundays and the library would be appointing a professional librarian to oversee this s«am, she said.
