Navy not to blame

The Navy was not to blame for an incident on Lyttelton Harbour on Saturday, in which a small boat was holed when it hit the wake of the inshore patrol craft Kiwi, and the two occupants were later picked up by the Navy vessel. Both the rescued and the rescuers wanted to correct what they saw as a suggestion in “The Press” yesterday that the Kiwi was making too large a wake. The two men, who thanked Navy staff yesterday for the rescue, said that the speed of their boat was too high. A Navy spokesman said that the Kiwi was making only 10 knots at the time, and did not leave a particularly large wake.
