Paparua election review study
Possible changes for the next Paparua County Council elections will be investigated by a special committee of council representatives. At a finance committee meeting held last evening the council heard that any changes had to be decided at least 15 months before the election.
The County Clerk, Mr B. L. Moar, said councillors would be required to decide whether any changes should be made in the number of representatives on the main council and district community council, and
whether any adjustments to riding boundaries would be necessary.
Cr M. I. Corbett said she welcomed the move for an early review of election procedures. “For many years we’ve been closing our eyes to change. People don’t like change but the council’s population is changing and I’m glad to see we’ve got onto this early,” she said.
The committee to investigate the election will make reports to the council at six to nine-month intervals.
